“All these problems—erosion of privacy; the triumph of the collective mind over the individual and the uncertain future of criticism; the customisation of the web; the blossoming of narcissism; the worsening addiction to technology—are complex social and political problems that cannot be solved through technology alone. The internet has helped to cause a lot of them—but it doesn’t seem to hold many solutions. Policy-makers and civil society will need to bear the burden of working on regulation and organising advocacy campaigns.”
